Sometimes being in the wild can make you feel at home. The peace and tranquillity that we search in our daily life can be attained by a single trip to a place that can make you realize that life is a wonder.
Kuntibetta is one such place where the breeze makes you feel fresh, the sounds make you come alive, and the scenery brings a smile to your lips.
Situated near Pandavapura,in Mandya district, nearly 150 km from Bangalore it consists of tworocky and picturesque hills. The British called them French rocks.
There is an interesting story behind the name of this place as it is known today. Legends state that Kunti along with her sons, the Pandavas, had come and stayed here after their exile. She had started to like this hillock, thus the name, Kuntibetta. (could be phrased as: since she took a liking to this hillock, it came to be called KuntiBetta; betta meaning ‘mountain’(check!) in Kannada.)
Kuntibetta is one of the most exciting trekking trails in Karnataka. You can either go as an independent group or plan your trip with tour-organisers like Thrillophilia which can make the journey all the more fun!
If you like exploring places alone, you need to catch a bus from Bangalore to Mandya or Srirangapatnam, and from there head to Pandavapura in a local transport. Reaching Pandavapura, you can hire an auto to reach the base of KuntiBetta. The trains running between Bangalore and Mysore also halt at Pandavpura railway station, which is just over 25 km from the latter.
If you are registering under tour-organisers like Thrillophilia, all you need to do is go through their website, Thrillophilia.com (give the full link here), and register under‘Plan a trek’. The way uphill is marred by rocks of all shapes and forms.Climbing, sliding, jumping from one rock to another, we reach the summit. Once you reach the summit nothing else matters;because the feeling is akin to heaven. Such is the atmosphere there. Your lungs fill up with fresh air that it has been yearning for ever since you moved into the city. The cool breeze sweeps your miseries away, and you simply feel happy and content. Following a night trek, to complete the experience, as we wait for the sun to rise, light up a little campfire. Engulfed by the warmth of the fire, the happiness of making it to the top will definitely make you smile with glee. It will remind you of the fact that no matter what hardships you face in life, in the end it will always be worthwhile.
As you gather your thoughts together, the sun-rays slowly fall on your face, bringing in with them a feeling of a new beginning in your life.Watching the sun rise slowly from the horizon is an experience and a sight that cannot be replaced by anything ever. (Click as many pictures as you can!!)

After the trekking, rejoicing and water-sports, once you are back In Pandavapura your stomach will rumble beyond comprehension. Have a sumptuous breakfast/luncheon from there, start back, and by evening you will be back in your den.
But things will be different as you go to bed; with a little smile on your face thinking about that sunrise, that climb and the fun you had.
